CLASS and MECHANISM of Action

Generic Glucophage - Matfarmin is an oral medication that lowers blood glucose (sugar) and is used for treating only type 2 diabetes. Generic Glucophage is for people with type 2 diabetes who do not use daily insulin injections. It is not used for treating type 1 diabetes.
Diabetes results because of reduced production of insulin and reduced uptake (and effects) of insulin on the body's tissues. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas. It lowers glucose levels in blood by reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver and by increasing the removal of glucose from the blood by muscle and fat tissues.
Generic Glucophage works by increasing the sensitivity of liver, muscle, fat, and other tissues to the uptake and effects of insulin. These actions lower the level of sugar in the blood.
Active Ingredients: metformin hydrochloride
Inactive Ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, magnesium stearate and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
